La Tonnelle Restaurant, Bormes-les-Mimosas

Greetings dear readers and friends. Well, where has the time gone? It seems like we were just celebrating the New Year and now we’re at the start of February… and not a moment too soon if you ask me. Living in Provence we certainly have nicer winters than other places in the world (no complaints!) but it’s still winter and we’ve been having some cold, rainy, and windy weeks over here in the good ‘ole South of France.

Have you ever felt a little down… and not really known why? Well, when I saw the first mimosa trees in bloom… all those beautiful, bright yellows full of hope and springtime inspiration… I realized that winter has had me feeling a bit blue. Just that hint of things to come… when Provence will be at its prettiest, its greenest, and… arguably… its most energetic and full of life, has lifted my spirits and put a smile on my face.

Spring is just around the corner…

So today, I decided to share a bit of sunshine, if not a little “sunshine on a plate” by writing about our trip to La Tonnelle restaurant in Bormes-les-Mimosas.

Our trip to La Tonnelle was a while back, but I hope these photos convey the open and colorful feeling of the restaurant and its very Provençal ambiance. We had a fantastic lunch with our friend “Chef Kathy” – and if anyone knows good food, it’s her (she does cooking and food tours in Italy and France, la chance! the luck!).

Kathy opted for seared tuna with herbed couscous, while I chose one of my all-time favorites: beef daube (the south’s answer to boeuf bourguignon).

Needless to say, everything was delicious… and things certainly taste even better after a few glasses of rosé…

La Tonnelle proposes special lunch prices where you get a main dish and a dessert for €33, and a starter and a main dish for €37. If you really want to go to town… you can get 2 starters, 2 main dishes, and 2 desserts for €59 – called the “Gourmandise” menu (and how!).

Please find the link for the complete menu here.

I hope you enjoy these photos from beautiful Bormes-les-Mimosas and Le Castellet village, and I hope that winter is treating you well in your corner of the world – bonne journée!

  1. This looks like really good restaurant. I never travel to south france but I might do it in the future. I am from Canada and this article made me want to travel and see the same place that you went. Amazing content, keep doing it!
